CAMERAS The TOC operates cameras throughout the state to verify traffic and road conditions. The TOC does not operate any “red light” cameras. We do, on rare occasion, record short periods of manually selected video at the TOC; these recordings are typically used for operations training or camera-quality documentation. We provide snapshots from most of these cameras every few minutes on our website (http://www.az511.com/CameraImages/) but we do not maintain any file copies of these images. Video feed from our location is provided to various public service agencies. In addition, free-access television stations within Arizona have access to our video feed and utilize our video feed during their news reports. Please understand that images provided from our website can be recorded/maintained by others without our control or permission. CELLULAR TELEPHONES ADOT does not support the use of cellular telephones (or any other device that distracts a driver from maintaining full eye contact and alertness with the road) by the operator of any vehicle. We encourages motorists to check our traveler information systems (az511.gov and 5-1-1) in a safe manner such as prior to traveling, while stopped at rest areas, or by having a passenger call 5-1-1 for updated roadway information. DYNAMIC MESSAGE SIGN (DMS) TRAVEL TIMES ADOT now displays travel times on selected Dynamic Message Signs (large signs over the freeway) within the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area. The times displayed are not guaranteed to be accurate for any specific driver nor should they be used to determine personal travel speeds. These times are strictly provided as an aid in determining congestion levels for noted routes. The times displayed are calculated from actual travel times being gathered from the roadways and are updated multiple times every five minutes; however, actual travel time experienced can differ from the times shown.
