Interstate 40 eastbound near Chambers remains closed

PHOENIX –The eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 remain closed in Chambers, about 30 miles from the Arizona-New Mexico State line.

The highway closure is due to a train derailment in New Mexico. In Arizona, eastbound I-40 is closed in Chambers at milepost 333 where traffic is being detoured to northbound US 191.

Motorists are advised to expect long delays on the detour route and to seek an alternate route or postpone travel plans through the area. Interstate travelers looking to pass through Arizona are encouraged to use southern routes, including Interstate 10.

There is no estimated time to reopen eastbound lanes of I-40 in Chambers. Motorists looking for information about highway travel in New Mexico can visit NMRoads.com.

Real-time highway conditions in Arizona are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, the AZ511 app and by calling 511.
