SR 89A closed due to weather-related rock slides

PHOENIX – State Route 89A is closed in both directions between Sedona and Flagstaff, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The highway is closed between mileposts 375 and 398 (Oak Creek Canyon) due to rock slides and adverse weather conditions.

If weather conditions continue to deteriorate or crashes and vehicle slide-offs occur that impact travel, other highways may become impassable and be closed for public safety.

The following highways are also closed due to poor weather conditions:

  • SR 64 between mileposts 242 and 268 near the east entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park

Drivers who choose to travel on roadways when winter driving conditions are present should be prepared to spend extended time on the road in extreme winter conditions. You should avoid traveling in winter weather to avoid situations where highways are impassable for long periods of time. Tracking the forecast and packing an emergency travel kit before traveling are among ADOT’s safety recommendations.

Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, downloading the AZ511 app, by calling 511 and through ADOT’s Twitter feed, @ArizonaDOT

Check with the National Weather Service for current weather conditions and forecasts.

Interstate travelers looking to pass through Arizona are encouraged to use southern routes, including I-10 and I-8, for travel.
